If you love spicy food, penne arrabbiata is for you! This fiery tomato-based pasta is easy to make and packed with bold flavors.

Ingredients

  • 400 g penne pasta (14 oz / 14 oz / 0.88 lbs)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (5 g)
  • 400 g canned tomatoes (14 oz / 14 oz / 1 can)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar (2.5 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (5 g)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

How to Make Penne Arrabbiata

1. Cook the Penne

  • Cook penne in salted water until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup (120 ml) of pasta water.

2. Prepare the Sauce

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté garlic and chili flakes for 1 minute.
  • Add canned tomatoes, sugar, and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Combine Pasta and Sauce

  • Toss the cooked penne in the sauce. Use reserved pasta water to adjust the thickness.

4. Serve

  • Garnish with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired.
