Ingredients
- 400 g penne pasta (14 oz / 14 oz / 0.88 lbs)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (5 g)
- 400 g canned tomatoes (14 oz / 14 oz / 1 can)
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar (2.5 g)
- 1 teaspoon salt (5 g)
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
How to Make Penne Arrabbiata
1. Cook the Penne
- Cook penne in salted water until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup (120 ml) of pasta water.
2. Prepare the Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté garlic and chili flakes for 1 minute.
- Add canned tomatoes, sugar, and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Combine Pasta and Sauce
- Toss the cooked penne in the sauce. Use reserved pasta water to adjust the thickness.
4. Serve
- Garnish with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired.
